A Young Adult Paranormal Romance Story

Emily opened her eyes slowly. She looked left and then right, taking in her surroundings. “Emily,” Jared whispered. He was at her side, waiting for her to come back to him. She got up slowly and looked around the room. Buster made his way over to her, wagging his tail.

“Jared, Buster. Where am I?” she said.

“You are at my house Emily. How do you feel?”

She had a puzzled look on her face. “I was attacked. There were lots of them, they growled at me. They …. I feel fine,” she said. She was acting like she was still in shock. She got up from the sofa and made her way to the window.

“Emily, sit down and take it easy. I need to explain what has happened to you,” he said, his voice almost desperate.

“I know what has happened to me. I can feel it inside,” she replied. She stared out of the window.

“I know exactly what has happened and I feel good. I feel really good,” she said and smiled.

Jared moved over to her. “I am so, so, so sorry Emily.” He took her hands and they moved to face each other.

“Jared we can be together now, there is nothing to stop us,” she replied with another bright smile.

“Emily, I’m going to take this journey for the serum, but it’s going to be for you. Do you understand?” He said. He moved her red curls away from her white porcelain-like skin. “This is a curse Emily, something I have been trying to contain. This is not something to celebrate. Haven’t you noticed that I also shift when I get angry? It’s not only the full moon that is my problem! Emily, I struggle every single day that I’m alive to control this. Now you’ve got this problem too and it’s all my fault.”

She moved into him and he held her tight. She wrapped her arms around his strong body. She could feel his bulky muscles and he was warm. Really warm. She breathed him in, he smelt amazing. “Jared, what is happening between us is strong, you cannot deny it. I want to be with you. Don’t be angry; be happy.” She looked up at him, staring into his dark eyes. They were genuine and kind. She moved her lips towards his; the chemistry was pulling them together like a magnet.

“Jared, Emily, kitchen now,” Said Joe. He had interrupted their moment. He was standing in the doorway and he looked impatient.

They moved apart and made their way to the kitchen. Joe pointed to the small, square dining table. Emily sat down and stared up at Joe, this was the first time she had actually seen him. He was huge and very handsome. She moved her stare up to his face, short cropped dark hair and blue eyes. He was no grandfather; he was far too young.

“I haven’t forgotten that you broke into my house young lady, but we will deal with that later,” said Joe.
